You can elect to tell us more about yourself so that YA can provide enhanced services, such as your entry on the 'Find a Yoga Teacher' database, or access to publications and other membership services. YA will under no circumstances sell, trade or rent any personal information that you supply to us to any third party. In short, information you supply to YA stays with YA..
You have the right to review and alter any personal membership information that YA stores about you. After all, it is your information, so you should be the person that controls it.

If you so desire, YA will never send you unsolicited email, that is, make you part of a YA mailing list. YA uses this method to communicate quickly with members. You have the right to refuse inclusion on a mailing list. Members can make a request to remove their email address from a mailing list by contacting the YA office.

YA Members

Yoga Australia has a strong commitment to protecting your privacy, and ensuring the confidentiality and security of personal information provided to YA by its members.

Members have the right to access the personal information about themselves held by the YA, and to correct information which is inaccurate.

Information you have provided to the YA is used to:
Process applications and renewals and update your membership details and profile information
Provide information to consumers and others on the availability of yoga services
Conduct market research in order to identify and analyse the ongoing needs of YA members
Ensure compliance with YA's Code of Ethics and Cod of Professional Conduct
Provide members with YA's publications and information
Provide members with access to and information about current and future member benefits.

Information provided by members may be disclosed to persons who have a contractual arrangement with YA, including business partners. However, YA undertakes not to disclose sensitive information without the member's consent.

From time to time, YA arranges mailings using the contact information you have provided, from its business partners. This includes all corporate partners and endorsed product manufacturers/suppliers. These mailings aim to provide members with information and benefits available to them.

If you do not wish to receive information from YA's business partners, you should advise the YA office.

Appendix A

Meaning of "professional misconduct"

Professional misconduct, in relation to a Yoga Teacher with YA membership, means unsatisfactory professional conduct of a sufficiently serious nature to justify suspension or cancellation of YA membership.

Meaning of "unsatisfactory professional conduct"

Unsatisfactory professional conduct in relation to a Yoga Teacher with YA membership, includes any of the following:

Any conduct by the yoga teacher that demonstrates a lack of adequate knowledge, skill, judgment or care in the practice of yoga.
Any other improper or unethical conduct by a yoga teacher in the course of the practice or purported practice of yoga.

Complaints must be in writing. For the processing of your complaint please print off the form below. Complete it, sign it and post it to this office with any extra information you have (xrays, photos, receipts, etc). If you have sought a second opinion please enclose any details of this second opinion.

Health Care Complaints Commission

The role and function of the Health Care Complaints Commission :

The Health Care Complaints Commission acts to protect public health and safety by resolving, investigating and prosecuting complaints about health care. The Commission provides a variety of core services.

The Commission responds to inquiries by consumers who are concerned about the health care that they have been provided with. These concerns may amount to complaints that should be dealt with by the Commission.

The Commission provides an independent service to assess consumer concerns and attempts to resolve them.

The Commission investigates matters that raise serious issues, and prosecutes complaints about registered health practitioners before disciplinary bodies where there are proper grounds to do so.

The Commission works closely with Health Provider Associations in handling complaints.
