Course Overview

If you have been practicing yoga for a while, you might have heard about the cakras and perhaps also about their “friends”, the nadis (channels) and prana(the energy moving in those channels). In ancient times, yogis believed that humans were made of a complex physiological structure, but also an even more complex underlying structure, part of which is known as the cakras. To put it simply, energy travels through channels, and in certain places there are “crossroads” where these channels meet. These “crossroads” are the cakras.

Yogis also believed that emotional and physiological functions were associated with each cakra, thus explaining that  “dis-ease” (literally) would sometimes occur when these cakras were not in balance.

If you think this sounds a bit esoteric… that’s probably because it is! However, when we examine these models from a rational standpoint, strip them of their myths and link them with our yoga practice, there is much we can learn to deepen it and understand it from a new perspective.

In each these 8 workshops, you will have access to a 45 minutes presentation and a one hour practice focused on the cakra of the day. There will also be time for Q&A and practice feedback.

Your experience and learning outcomes

  • You will get a clear understanding of the seven cakras, focusing on one each week, based on textual sources whence these models came from.
  • You will also experience practices specifically designed to explore each cakra, drawing from them to go deeper in your own yoga practice.
  • The first class will give you the background you need to build upon in the following weeks.

8 workshops, each one consisting of

  • a 45 minutes presentation on the cakra of the day
  • a 15 minutes Q&A session
  • a 55 minutes practice focused on the cakra of the day

Experience through practice

The integrated practice will be focused on the cakra of the day, including asana, pranayama, sound, and visualisation.

Note: a copy of the practice, along with self-observation guidelines, will be given to you each time, so that you can continue to experiment with it on your own for the balance of the week.

What you will learn in the presentations

  • Location of the cakra
  • Characteristics, functions and dysfunctions of the cakra
  • The cakra in relation to prana(energy), asana (yoga posture), pranayama (breath work)
  • Spiritual aspects and emotions associated with the cakra

Who is it for?

Yoga teachers but also all yoga students who want to take their practice to the next level.
