The teacher who is leading the classes is Iris Amalin. Iris has been practising Yoga for over 29 years. Her journey started when she was 14 years old and began tap dancing classes in a little dance studio in Berlin, Germany. In her late teens she continued "working" with her body when she went to DIE ETAGE (acrobatics and dance school) in Berlin, focussing on Tap-Dance, Acrobatics and Tight-rope walking Her search naturally developed into exploring the deeper aspect of the body mind spirit relationship, bringing her to Yoga.
Iris started Yoga with Shanti Yoga, (with Shanti Gowans) and Iyengar Yoga (with Frank Jesse and Murray Lazenby) in Melbourne in the late 1980s. After practising Yoga for years Iris undertook a 3 year Yogic Studies and Teacher Training in the Satyananda Yoga Tradition at the Rocklyn Ashram, Vic. and Mangrove Mountain Ashram Yoga Academy, NSW, Australia. She completed Teacher Training Level 1 in 2007 and Level 2 in 2012.
More recently she completed the 200 hour Yin Yoga & Anatonmy training with Yin Therapy (Markus Giessen and Karen Sang, students of Paul Grilley and Sarah Powers) and 50 hours with Mindful Yoga Academy. Iris continues to expand and develop her Yoga knowledge base. She has done a course on Mindfulness with Dr Craig Hassad, author of "Mindfulness for Life", and has completed an intensive with Donna Farhi, the widely published Yoga teacher.
Iris has an established daily Yoga practice and believes that Yoga is a way of life; applying yogic principles, making conscious decisions with integrity, creating a peaceful environment within and around. She brings to the classes her experience, passion and commitment to Yoga. Iris has been running Yoga courses in Melbourne, Malmsbury, Kyneton and Chewton for the last 13 years. She has taught private Yoga courses; classes in the Youth Justice System; Meditation classes at the State Library of Victoria and individual tailored one to one sessions.
In her private time Iris loves dancing. She has taken up the practice of 5Rhythms, which is a movement meditation practice devised by Gabrielle Roth that draws from indigenous and world traditions using elements of shamanistic, mystical, ecstatic and eastern philosophies. It is described as a soul journey drawing from Gestalt therapy, transpersonal psychology and the human potential movement. Fundamental to the practice is the idea that everything is energy, moving the body, releasing the heart, freeing the mind, so that one can connect to the essence of the soul, the source of inspiration. Iris has undertaken workshops with Jonathan Horan (NY), Tammy Burstein (NY) and Kate Sheela (LA), (Waves, Heartbeat, Trance, Cycles).
