The teacher who is leading the classes is Iris Amalin.  Iris has been practising Yoga for over 29 years.  Her journey started when she was 14 years old and began tap dancing classes in a little dance studio in Berlin, Germany.  In her late teens she continued "working" with her body when she went to DIE ETAGE (acrobatics and dance school) in Berlin,  focussing on Tap-Dance, Acrobatics and Tight-rope walking   Her search naturally developed into exploring the deeper aspect of the body mind spirit relationship, bringing her to Yoga.

Iris started Yoga with Shanti Yoga, (with Shanti Gowans) and Iyengar Yoga (with Frank Jesse and Murray Lazenby) in Melbourne in the late 1980s.  After practising Yoga for years Iris undertook a 3 year Yogic Studies and Teacher Training in the Satyananda Yoga Tradition at the Rocklyn Ashram, Vic. and Mangrove Mountain Ashram Yoga Academy, NSW, Australia. She completed Teacher Training Level 1 in 2007 and Level 2 in 2012.

More recently she completed the 200 hour Yin Yoga & Anatonmy training with Yin Therapy (Markus Giessen and Karen Sang, students of Paul Grilley and Sarah Powers) and 50 hours with Mindful Yoga Academy.  Iris continues to expand and develop her Yoga knowledge base. She has done a course on Mindfulness with Dr Craig Hassad, author of "Mindfulness for Life", and has completed an intensive with Donna Farhi, the widely published Yoga teacher.

Iris has an established daily Yoga practice and believes that Yoga is a way of life; applying yogic principles, making conscious decisions with integrity, creating a peaceful environment within and around.  She brings to the classes her experience, passion and commitment to Yoga.  Iris has been running Yoga courses in Melbourne, Malmsbury, Kyneton and Chewton for the last 13 years.  She has taught private Yoga courses; classes in the Youth Justice System; Meditation classes at the State Library of Victoria and individual tailored one to one sessions.

In her private time Iris loves dancing.  She has taken up the practice of 5Rhythms, which is a movement meditation practice devised by Gabrielle Roth that draws from indigenous and world traditions using elements of shamanistic, mystical, ecstatic and eastern philosophies.  It is described as a soul journey drawing from Gestalt therapy, transpersonal psychology and the human potential movement. Fundamental to the practice is the idea that everything is energy,  moving the body, releasing the heart, freeing the mind, so that one can connect to the essence of the soul, the source of inspiration.  Iris has undertaken workshops with Jonathan Horan (NY), Tammy Burstein (NY) and Kate Sheela (LA), (Waves, Heartbeat, Trance, Cycles).

Great! Iris leads her classes providing a challenge to a wide range of folk who seek advancement in their yogic practice. We are constantly impressed with class variety, care given and individual attention provided. Iris obviously has a wide and ever expanding knowledge of yoga. Her supportive and encouraging style sits well with her empathetic respect for all participants. With our combined experience of yoga: greater than 2 decades: we consider ourselves extremely fortunate to be in Iris's yogic care.

I am delighted to be doing yoga with Iris. Having had excellent teachers in the past I can appreciate the knowledge, commitment and care that Iris brings to her teaching. What really makes her stand out is her warmth, humour and focus on individual needs and capabilities.

We are lucky in this town to have someone who has the expertise and talents as Iris possesses for our yoga teacher. While running a yoga class Iris is able to modify exercises to suit individuals' needs and conditions and is greatly appreciated for both her skills and manner.

Rod Andrews Malmsbury

Iris is especially good at working with each person individually, and helping them to get the best results for their own situation. Iris has a warm and caring approach. I have found that her yoga classes really work to stave off the effects of aging, and of lower back problems.

Maureen Condliffe

Iris is a good yoga teacher because she uses gentle persuasion to teach us. But not only that she is a keen observer but she also knows how to put these observations into words both during and after the session. This has enabled me to really enjoy and progress under her guidance.

Iris's yoga classes give both a fabulous body and mind experience. She insures each individual needs and capabilities are met with care. I would thoroughly recommend her yoga teachings.

Yoga with Iris is a special time in my week. Iris is a special lady who cares for her students, takes care of body and mind and spirit. Iris's classes are beneficial, soothing and relaxing, taking care of aching muscles and calming the mind. Highly recommend yoga.

As an anxiety sufferer for nearly 20 years now I have found Iris's yoga classes to help me relax mentally and relieve tension in my body physically. It has given me the tools to deal with daily anxiety and panic attacks whereby using her techniques and poses I am able to see a significant reduction to my symptoms. Her gentle manner and professional approach makes yoga a joy to do.

Marianne Pattinson

As a health worker, with an interest in keeping Baby-Boomers (born 1946-1964) healthy and happy, I recommend Iris's yoga classes. I strongly believe yoga has an important role. It helps to keep our muscles supple and strong, and to keep our circulation flowing strongly through our bodies (and brain). Vital for our continuing health! If you want to avoid becoming stooped over, with sore joints do regular yoga! (It worked for me!)

Iris is an amazing Yoga instructor - a precious gem! Iris has an ability to make everyone feel at ease during a class. She happily adapts poses to suit anyone with health condition or special need, and is very caring and considerate of participants. Classes are always varied and we are kept engaged and interested by a challenging, yet comfortable program. I would recommend Iris to anyone seeking a wonderful Yoga experience.
