Janet Lowndes is a Psychologist and Certified Yoga Therapist inspired by the ancient Yogic teachings as a path to health and wellbeing. Janet trained originally as a Psychologist and came to Yoga for her own health following a car accident. As a student of Yoga, Janet developed an appreciation of the richness of the Yogic teachings which she then travelled to India to study in more depth.
Janet studied her initial Yoga Teacher training with Swami Vivekananda Yoga Ashram in Banglore, India, after which time she travelled to Northern India to teach conversational English to Buddhist Monks, a community which inspired her with their compassionate integrative way of living.
On return from India Janet further developed her training with immersion in the two year Diploma of Health – Yoga Teaching, with the Australian Institute of Yoga and the Centre for Adult Education in Melbourne. Since then she has been a perpetual student of Yoga, with influences from Teachers including Leigh Blashki, Richard Miller, AG and Indra Mohan, Amy Weintraub, Judith Lasater, and Petrea King.
Janet co-ordinates and teaches on the faculty of the Graduate Certificate in Yoga Therapy with the Australian institute of Yoga Therapy, and she is a former faculty member of the Advanced Diploma of Yoga Teaching with the Academy of Yoga Learning. Janet also sees clients for individual counselling and Yoga Therapy in her practice in central Melbourne - Mind Body Well.
